Going Bald Doesn’t Have To Be Bad

Usually when people see a lot of hair in the plug hole after showering they start to panic out of fear of going bald. However, if you find yourself in a similar situation, you should consider the following facts before you take a decision regarding the seriousness of your predicament.

It is important that you realize that at any given moment, 90% of your hair is in a growing phase and the other 10% is in the resting phase. The hair that is in the resting phase, is the one usually falls out. As many as a hundred hairs may be in the resting phase at a time. This means that when you have hair coming off in your comb, hairbrush or accumulates in the plug hole, you do not have to worry too much about it.

If the hair loss is excessive (appears to be more than about 150 hairs) you might be facing a more serious issue. Yet, before believing that baldness is bound to happen, try to take a step back and look at the broader perspective. Is there a lot of stress in your life lately? Is there something causing hormonal imbalance? (E.g. pregnancy, in women). If you’ve answered yes to either or both of these questions, you might not have anything major to worry about. The hair loss might be temporary.

You can use the “tug-test” as a way to confirm if you are starting to lose your hair. Just grab a strand of approximately 20 hairs between your thumb and forefinger and pull slowly, but firmly. If 6 or more hairs fall out, then it’s time to take some action.

Your diet is another factor which can influence your hair loss. A poor diet and a stressful life can induce your hair falling out. Adding more vitamins and minerals in your diet can help prevent your hair loss. Eating fruits and vegetables about 5 days a week and taking healthy supplements would be advisable.

Make sure that your diet includes a lot of omega 3 fatty acids which are said to slow down or stop hair loss. Be sure to include iron also in your dietary supplements. Iron is a mineral which is an integral component of hemoglobin, the substance that helps your red blood cells carry oxygen to your body tissues, including your scalp.

Also, if you are putting unnecessary strain on your hair follicles by using different hairstyles can also increase hair loss. Shampoos containing Sodium Laureth sulfate should be strictly avoided. Even though these are good shampoos, they tend to make your hair thin out.

DHT is major cause of hair loss. Fight it by drinking a lot of green tea, at least three or four cups a day. This would definitely help reduce hair loss. If you do not like to drink green tea, it is now available as a dietary supplement, and you can take it in that form.
